The government of Côte d’Ivoire will allocate CFA25.3 billion (about $44 million) to support its cotton sector in the 2025/2026 season, Agriculture Minister Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani announced on July 31.

This is more than double the CFA11.9 billion ($20.7 million) granted for the previous campaign. The increased subsidy will help maintain the producer price for first-grade seed cotton at CFA310 per kilogram ($0.53) and improve access to fertilizers and pesticides.

“This government effort represents a subsidy of CFA44 per kilogram of seed cotton and CFA18,000 per hectare to reduce input prices,” said the minister, as reported by Abidjan.net.

The move comes as the country works to reverse a production decline. Output dropped by nearly 11% year-on-year in 2024/2025, falling to 311,647 tons.

In June, the Professional Association of Cotton Companies of Côte d’Ivoire (APROCOT-CI) set a target to raise production to 550,000 tons in 2025/2026. This would mark a 77% increase over the previous season.
